Not all political decisions are correct. This was one among the countless ones. Neither Padmashree #HaldharNag is a linguist nor any member from that delegation that met with CM #NabinPatnaik. Sri Haldhar Nag is a great poet in Sambalpuri language and he is a champion in his domain. We consider him as the boon of Maa Saraswati for Sambalpuri literature. He has a special position in Western Odisha and will be remain for ever. But, that doesn't mean he is above the interest of our land, culture and language.
It is utter nonsense to rename the age old #Sambalpuri language as #Kosali. Both are different languages. In fact Kosali is a very old language spoken in the stretch between Himalaya in the North and Bastar in Chhattisgarh state in the South. It is also known as Eastern Hindi group by linguists. Its modern representatives are Awadhi, Bagheli and Chhattisgarhi.
In the contrary to the above, Sambalpuri follow the grammar of Eastern Group language family, also known as Magadhi Prakrit or Prachya. It has close resemblance with Bhojpuri of the Eastern group. Like the Ardha-Magadhi Prakrit, the Magadhi Prakrit too has spreaded from North to South by taking shape of various tongues such as Nagpuri or Sadri, and Sambalpuri.
We definitely want our Sambalpuri language to be included in the 8th schedule of Indian constitution and to be made as the medium of school education in West Odisha. At the same time demand to the CM Odisha Sri Nabin Patnaik to declare Sambalpuri as the 2nd official language of the state.
Anyone, who has doubt on Sambalpuri and Kosali language, please do visit the link given below. It is a very well researched documentary made by Sri Anand Sagar Dash on the above subject. Donot fall prey to the heinous agenda by some mindless people who are doing it out of their jealous towards the name #Sambalpur and Sambalpuri.
